Fractional Leadership

Fractional UX Leadership + Capability Build

The bridge to your VP hire

For an initial engagement period, I act as your organization's Fractional UX Leader — a Capability Build with Embedded Enablement. "Fractional" means I'm doing the real work, not auditing from afar; "Capability Build with Embedded Enablement" is the difference between filling a seat and building the machine your future VP will run — then coaching it into your team so it keeps running after I'm gone. It de-risks the eventual VP hire instead of leaving the role empty until budget clears, and it's front-loaded so the value lands early.

  • Term. Typically 3–6 months, with the option to renew through the end of your fiscal year as needs evolve.

  • Capacity. Scales with your needs — engagements often start around 8–10 hours per week and ramp to 20+ hours per week as the work deepens.

  • Role. Interim VP of UX — Fractional Leadership + capability building with embedded enablement. The interim title supports cross-functional collaboration, including access to customers and coordination with adjacent teams (e.g., Product Management/Dev/Customer Experience/Support) — with accessibility advisory available throughout, and a dedicated accessibility build available in the back half of the engagement.

  • Standard availability. 2–3 standard days per week are designated as reliably available for planning purposes; I'm open to flexing within reason on the remaining days as things come up.

  • In-person gatherings. For events like a leadership offsite, travel and lodging are covered by the client with prior written agreement; in-person time beyond 20 hours in a given week is billed hourly (e.g., a 4-day offsite would bill 16 hours).

  • Testing tooling. The client agrees to separately cover a user-testing tool license — typically under $10,000/year for multiple seats, or under $5,000/year for a single seat.

  • "What sets Nova apart is how she holds both the big picture and the human picture at once. She understands organizational structures deeply, but her real gift is seeing the strengths in the people around her — and helping them see those strengths too. She's been a cornerstone of my non-profit's growth, and I genuinely don't think we'd be where we are today without her."
