It might be a book!
But let’s talk budget.
This idea might be a book if you're:
up to put in a heavy dose of elbow grease and
will feel satisfied with “good enough” if your budget can’t get you the bells ans whistles professionally published books receive.
For example, most books that are enjoyable to read have a professional editor (or two). This makes up a large bulk of the minimum cost of a book and cost between .05- .09 a word, or about 2,600-5,800 for 65k word book.
Then, there’s the question of cover design, purchasing ISBN registration, and printing. This, of course, presumes you plan on writing all the content and being captain of all the steps.
How professional and sell-able you want your book will depend on the project. But, it also begs the question, does this have to be a book?
This project could be a great opportunity for beta-testing your great idea in a smaller format than a traditional book. Could it be an article or series of articles pitched to an outlet with big readership? A series of stories released on cadence behind the paywall of a newsletter tool? Or an expertly distilled series of images, diagrams, and text that get your point across in a smaller format like a tract, polemic, monograph, chapbook, infobook, or zine.
You may find these alternative formats can be powerful building blocks to your goal. They’re often created more quickly, easier to adapt, test, and fine tune before you eventually release a paper-and-ink book it that is your ultimate goal.
